A Promise Kept
The pharisees told Pilate lies Provoked a mob to angry cries Demanding Pilate to decree That Barabbas should be set free Accusing Jesus, scourged and tired Of having against Rome conspired Causing Pilate to decide That Jesus should be crucified And so He was. In agonizing pain and weak Upon the cross He was heard to speak "They know not Father what they do", And in a l while, saying "It is through." And what was done? What did He do? Why the pain of death that He went through? He died for all, not for just a few He died for everyone; for me; for you. He died to prove He'd rise again Defeating death, that He might reign As the mighty everlasting Lord Of all souls he saved and so adored Ceaser's throne is long since gone But Christ our Lord's throne still goes on The eternal King whose word we trust Died to meet man's need by serving us Knowing the soul of man was lost and dead Unless washed by the blood He alone could shed Can you feel the spear that slashed His side Or the burning welts from a lash of hide The thorn crown pushed onto His head That blurred HIs vision as He bled Can you feel the spikes pounded through each hand The hellish pain endured as a mortal man. Think of the anguish He must have surely felt As His weeping mother beneath Him knelt Hear the weak sad sound of His laboured breath The last He gasped before His death. Impaled high upon a cross of shame He suffered mortal death that we all could claim Eternal life believing in His name What mortal could have done the same Lovingly withstanding such pain and shame?
Let us all then praise the God who gave His Son (Himself) upon a cross to save Every soul on earth from death's dark grave | |
